Getting compensation for workplace injuries can often be more complicated than it should be. You’d think that employers would have lots of incentive to pay injured workers what they need to heal and get back to work, but that’s not always the case.

There are a lot of rules you must follow after being injured at work. You’ll need to immediately notify your manager and schedule an appointment with an employer-approved physician. That physician then needs to diagnose your injuries and give you an estimate on how much your treatments will cost and when you can return to work.

In some cases, your employer or your employers’ workers’ comp insurance company will dispute your injuries. They might argue that your injuries were preexisting, or you didn’t actually suffer those injuries at work. The workers’ comp insurance company might even claim your injuries aren’t actually that serious and you don’t really need all those treatments or time off work.

Claim denials or underpaid claims can happen for any number of reasons, but the end result is the same. You won’t get the money you need to make a full physical and financial recovery after your work accident.

Even if you aren’t a legal resident of the United States, you are still likely entitled to workers’ comp after an on-the-job injury. Don’t let fear of your legal status prevent you from filing a claim and getting the money your family needs to recover.
